Dating from the 1960’s, this fantastic modernist pendant is an example of the meticulous silver work of the David-Andersen Company. The pendant is comprised of two harmoniously-shaped components in a design strengthened by the juxtaposition of the convex surface of the smaller form against the concave surface of the larger. It is stamped on the back “David-Anderson Norway Sterling 925s,” and measures 2-1/2″ high (to the top of the bale) by 1-1/2″ wide. The pendant is in excellent vintage condition and includes is a 24″ sterling silver Figaro chain which, though not original, looks quite beautiful, aesthetically.
About the Maker
David Andersen began his career as an independent goldsmith in London in 1869 and went on to found the David-Andersen company in Christiana (now Oslo) Norway in 1876. A little more than a decade later, success allowed him to move to better production facilities and not long after, to open a second retail location in Oslo. On his death in 1901, David’s son Arthur took over and made a number of important innovations, including his decision to change the family name to “David-Andersen.” The company is now run by fourth-generation descendants Uni and Jon David-Andersen and continues to enjoy success. Throughout its long history the company has maintained a reputation for high standards and remarkable craftsmanship. The David-Andersen company is also notable for its ability to produce consistently high quality work through evolving artistic trends including Naturalism, Dragestil, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernism.
