These ultra-mod floor lamps were designed by Carlo Nason for the Mazzega 1946 Chandeliers company of Murano, Italy. Born in 1936, Nason is a member of one of the oldest glass making families in Murano and began learning the centuries-old tradition of Venetian glass making at an early age. Over the course of a long and continuing relationship with Mezzega, Nason has produced signature designs of Italian lighting. Iconic examples of his work, the lamps date from the 1970s and consist of large upper and lower glass shades connected by a stainless steel band at the center and supported by a circular stainless steel base. The lamps are likely to have been produced at separate times, given minor differences between the two, including a slight difference in tone of the white shades when lit and slightly different appearance of the brushed stainless steel finish. The lamps are labeled ”A” and ”B” in detail photos below to help clarify these small differences. The lamps are being offered as a pair, as they appear to be identical in all other respects. Both are in excellent condition with no visible defects to the glass and only a few minor areas discoloration to the stainless steel finish of lamp “B,” which could be brushed out. Lamp “A” appears to have its original cord while “B” may have had its wiring replaced. They measure 48” tall by approximately 15-1/2” in diameter at the widest point.
