Description

Among the most collectible pieces of iconic modernist designer Russel Wright’s “Casual” line of dinnerware, this handsome wine carafe is a true find for collectors of midcentury modern housewares. Unlike its more fragile predecessors of the American Modern line, it is made from high-fired china and is finished in a lustrous “sugar white” glaze. The carafe measures 10″ high by 5″ wide from the back to the tip of the spout and is stamped on the bottom “Iroquois Casual China by Russel Wright.” It is in exceptional vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or other defects.

About the Maker

Regarded as one of America’s most influential industrial designers, Russel Wright became a household name in the 1940s and 1950s. His iconic American Modern dinnerware line sold more than 250,000,000 pieces during, earning it the distinction of being the most widely produced line of its kind in history. Exemplary of midcentury modern design, the Iroquois Casual line of pottery that followed saw Wrights design concepts evolve further, now in the more durable medium of high-fired china. Viewing the table as the center of the household, he designed from there outward, from tableware to furniture to architecture and landscaping. Centering on concepts of a new, more relaxed way of life, his designs transformed the way Americans lived and organized their homes in the second half of the century.
