With its Blackamoor theme and fiberglass shades, this impressive chalkware lamp boldly recalls a bygone era. Similar examples are frequently attributed to a commission for the famed Las Vegas Aladdin Hotel, which would date the piece to the mid-1960s. The lamp stands 38″ high by 38″ wide, with 21″ diameter shades. We rate the condition of the body and metal parts as excellent and the shades as very good. The face, faux ruby decoration and plume are flawless. There are two very small chips on the lower ruffles of the sleeves and what appears to be minor crazing in the paint on the back of the head. One shade has two small imperfections: see photos. The lamp has a three-position switch, allowing either the upper two lights or the lower trio of lights to be on alone, or all five lights at once. As the dimensions suggest, he’s a real show-stopper and a rare find.
