Description
This exquisite art glass unicorn is signed by the artist Stuart Abelman and dated 1984. The body of the unicorn is made of a lovely aqua-blue glass with a surface treatment that ranges from a frosted sheen to clear polished appearance at the tip of the nose. Pulled feather designs in white and iridescent gold echo the form of the shoulders and neck, while a spirals in white decorate the horn. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips or other defects. It measures 6-3/4″ tall by 7-1/2″ wide (to the tip of the horn) by 1-1/2″ deep.

Since the 1970’s, following intensive academic study at Carnegie Mellon University and UCLA , Stuart Abelman has produced some of the world’s most technically accomplished, aesthetically appealing and collectible works of art glass. His love of nature, combined with his dedication and devotion to glass, has created a unique energy that drives his studio and enables him to create works in glass that are sought after and cherished by museums (including the Corning Museum of Glass) serious collectors and the general public alike. So intertwined are his life and art that Stuart was once famously said, “I have been working with hot glass for over thirty-five years and I am certain it runs through my veins.”
