Description
This striking Correia cameo glass vase measures a substantial 12″ high by 7-1/4″ in diameter. Its conical shape and overlapping circles design lend it a mod feel, while the repetition of the motif in reverse on either side of the piece adds interest. The design elements are garnet etched into the dark polished surface, producing a contrasting light, frosted appearance. The cone shape rests on a base comprised of three clear glass discs in successively smaller dimensions. It is signed and dated 1991 on the bottom and is inscribed with an addition number of 24/200. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips or other defects.
About the Artist:
Located in Santa Monica, California, Correia Art Glass is a family-owned glass studio founded in 1973 by internationally acclaimed artist Steven Correia. Upon opening his studio, Steven’s work quickly earned acclaim and popularity within the art world, owing in part to the help of his sister Patricia, who brought word of his beautiful work to museums and dealers. The company continues to thrive today under the direction and artistic vision of Steven’s daughter Algerine Correia along with her brother Jeffrey Correia, an artist both highly skilled in traditional methods and in tune with the art glass avant-garde.
Combining time-tested glassblowing techniques and craftsmanship with the advantages offered by modern technology, Correia artists produce work of exceptional quality and unique aesthetic appeal. Examples of Correia glass can be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Corning Museum and the Chrysler Museum of Art. Both contemporary pieces and vintage works signed by Steven himself are highly prized by collectors.
